The trade-off of unincorporated status: there’s no free annual bulky-item pickup like the one Auburn or Federal Way residents get from their city contracts. LeMay does offer bulk pickup by request, but it’s a paid service — billed per cubic yard on the truck plus transfer-station tipping fees.
Routine service is straightforward: weekly garbage and every-other-week recycling, with carts in 65 or 95 gallon sizes. For anything bigger:
- Paid bulk pickup through LeMay — call; rates follow the published Pierce County Refuse tariff
- DIY to a transfer station — Hidden Valley Transfer Station (South Hill, ~10 minutes from Spanaway) is the closest; per-ton tipping fees, vehicle required
- Hazardous waste & electronics — handled separately through Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department and Washington’s E-Cycle program
Pacific Avenue runs the length of Spanaway and a lot of the long-time homes have garages and sheds filled with decades of accumulation. LeMay’s paid pickup works for one or two items at the curb; a serious garage or yard cleanout usually needs either a roll-off or a full-service haul.

About Spanaway, WA
Spanaway grew up around Spanaway Lake and the old Mountain Highway corridor — larger lots than the Tacoma proper neighborhoods, lots of mature trees, plenty of yard projects per year. Most homes have real driveways and decent garage access, which makes both dumpster delivery and junk pickup straightforward. The area’s still quieter than central Pierce, but it’s been growing as folks priced out of Tacoma move further south.
