About University Place’s Bulk Trash Pickup Service
University Place is served by University Place Refuse, the local hauler that’s been on this side of Pierce County for decades.
UP Refuse offers residential customers a free curbside bulky pickup — up to 5 items per pickup, 1 pickup per household per year, plus 2 transfer-station drop-offs per year (starting January 2026, with flexible scheduling during business hours instead of two fixed cleanup weekends).
Per-item limits: – No single item over 300 lbs – No item larger than 4 feet × 8 feet × 3 feet – All items must be empty; nothing inside other things – Refrigerators / freezers must be securely closed and duct-taped shut (compressor decommissioning fee applies) – Power yard equipment needs oil, fuel, and batteries removed beforehand
Accepted: furniture, appliances (washers, dryers, ranges, microwaves, water heaters), exercise equipment, rolled and tied carpet (must stay dry).
Not accepted: electronics (any kind), glass tables / mirrors / cabinet doors, home improvement materials, hazardous waste, riding mowers.
All items must be identified when you call to schedule — no changes allowed afterward. The program is generous for furniture and appliances but electronics, glass, and any remodel-debris fall outside it. For those — or for an unscheduled “right now” pickup — UP Refuse’s program won’t cover it.
