The City of Lakewood contracts Waste Connections (operating locally as LeMay Pierce County Refuse) for residential garbage, recycling, and yard waste.
Unlike Auburn or Federal Way, Lakewood does not offer an annual curbside bulky-item pickup. Instead, the city runs two community cleanup events per year — one in spring, one in fall — held at the Lakewood Transfer Station, 3869 94th St SW. Lakewood residents bring loads themselves (ID/proof of residency required, 5 minutes to unload, no box vans or vehicles over 7′ tall, trailers max 4’×8′).
What the cleanup events accept: bagged household items, tires (no rims), bicycles, furniture, grills, appliances except refrigerators, and recyclables.
What the cleanup events do NOT take: loose items, paint, yard waste, construction debris, lumber 8+ feet, concrete, auto parts, hazardous materials, propane tanks, electronics, and mattresses.
That excluded list is long — mattresses, refrigerators, electronics, construction debris, and anything loose are common items that don’t fit Lakewood’s program. Outside of those two cleanup weekends, oversize items need separate handling: either a paid bulk pickup through LeMay billed per cubic yard plus tipping fees), a DIY run to a regional transfer station, or a call.
