The Pacific NW’s municipal bulk-trash programs vary by city, by hauler, and by how generous the city’s contract is. Some run quarterly cleanup events, some allow a paid on-call pickup, and unincorporated areas don’t get a free program at all. Here’s the actual landscape across Hoss’s service area as of 2026 — confirmed from each city’s published program.
Programs and dates change. Confirm specifics with your city or hauler before relying on this page; we’ll keep it current as the contracts get renewed.
City of Tacoma — Call-2-Haul
Tacoma’s program is the most generous in the region. Residential Solid Waste customers get two curbside pickups per year — built into residential rates, no extra fee. Each pickup covers up to 3 large items plus 15 boxes/bags of smaller items.

Pierce County Unincorporated Areas — LeMay PCR (No Free Program)
South Hill, Spanaway, Graham, Parkland, Frederickson, Lake Tapps, JBLM — these are unincorporated, served by LeMay Pierce County Refuse. The trade-off of unincorporated status: there’s no free annual bulky-item pickup like the one cities negotiate into their contracts.
LeMay offers bulk pickup by request, but it’s a paid service — billed per cubic yard plus tipping fees, following the published Pierce County Refuse tariff. Schedule at ****.
Closest transfer station for South Hill, Graham, Spanaway: Hidden Valley Transfer Station, 17925 Meridian Ave E (per-ton tipping fees, walk-in Mon–Sat).

When the Municipal Option Doesn’t Work
- Wrong time of year — most cities run their free program once a year; if your closet purge happens in May and your city’s cleanup is in October, that’s a long wait
- Item not allowed — mattresses, hot tubs, electronics, construction debris, anything over 300 lbs or 8 ft are common exclusions
- You can’t wait — selling the house, end-of-lease, move-in for a new tenant
- No vehicle for the transfer station — sedan + sectional doesn’t work
- The pile isn’t at the curb — basement, attic, backyard, shed
That’s where same-day junk hauling earns the call.
