Point Ruston is a 97-acre mixed-use development on nearly a mile of Commencement Bay shoreline, built on the site of the former Asarco copper and arsenic smelter — an operation that ran for about a century before the smokestack was demolished in 1993. Point Ruston LLC bought the contaminated site in 2006, took on remediation responsibility, and broke ground that year. The build-out has rolled out in phases ever since.

The current built environment includes the Copperline (173 apartments and 44 condos, 2013), the Century building and Grand Plaza (2015) with a 9-screen cineplex and around 55,000 sq ft of retail, plus the Baker and Rainier condo buildings, restaurants, and the public Waterwalk that connects Ruston Way to Point Defiance Park and Dune Peninsula Park.
