Spring in Auburn means a few solid weeks of “actually warm enough to be outside,” and that’s when most folks tackle the garage and yard projects they’ve been putting off all winter. Here’s how to make it productive.

Why Spring in the PNW Is the Right Time

  • The garage is finally not freezing
  • The yard has stopped being a mud pit
  • Days are long enough that you can work past 6 PM
  • The Sound is finally visible from the windows after winter rain

Start With the Garage

Garages in Auburn accumulate over the wet months — sports gear, holiday decorations that didn’t get put away, salt-rimed boots, that bag of yard waste from last fall.

  1. Pull everything out that’s not bolted down
  2. Sort: keep, sell, toss
  3. Sweep / wash the floor while it’s empty
  4. Reorganize back in — hooks, shelves, bins
  5. Haul the toss pile

Most Auburn garage cleanouts produce 1-3 truck-loads of stuff that doesn’t need to be there anymore.

Then the Yard

PNW winters dump a lot of stuff in your yard — branches, debris from storms, dead foliage. Spring is the time to:

  • Pull dead annuals
  • Prune (the smart ones know spring is for shaping, not heavy pruning)
  • Clear winter branches and debris
  • Power-wash the deck/patio/siding
  • Re-mulch or top up landscape rock

The yard waste pile gets big fast. We pick up post-spring-cleanup loads across Auburn.

The City of Auburn Bulk Trash Question

Auburn’s contracted hauler is Waste Management (since October 2021). WM customers get one free Annual Bulky Item Curbside Pickup per year, up to 4 large items — scheduled in advance at **** and collected on your regular service day.

That program is great for what it covers: appliances (refrigerator emptied, stove, washer, dryer, dishwasher, water heater, AC unit, microwave), most furniture (sofa, sectional, mattress + box spring as a set, dresser, bookcase, dining set), exercise equipment, BBQs (propane removed), small ladders, vacuums. No single item over 300 lbs or 8 feet.

What it doesn’t cover, and what fills most spring-cleanup piles: hot tubs (cover only, not the tub), construction and remodeling debris (drywall, lumber, flooring, fencing, cement), tires, electronics, hazardous waste, riding mowers, and the second/third/fourth annual pickup. Hazardous waste goes to the Auburn Wastemobile (1101 Outlet Collection Way); electronics go to UpTekk (101 Lund Rd).

The municipal option works once a year, for the right four items. For everything else — or for “right now” same-day — that’s the call to a hauler.
