Got a pile of metal you don’t know what to do with? Old water heater, dead BBQ, rusty swing set, leftover scrap from a roofing job, old appliance carcass? We pick it up across Tacoma and Pierce County and responsibly disposed.
What Counts as Scrap Metal
- Ferrous (steel and iron): appliances, water heaters, gym equipment, swing sets, BBQs, old vehicles (parts), tools
- Non-ferrous: aluminum (siding, gutters, cans), copper (wire, pipe), brass (fixtures), stainless steel
- Mixed scrap: post-renovation metal, mixed appliance debris
Where the Metal Goes
Pierce County has solid scrap metal recycling infrastructure — Tacoma Scrap Iron & Metals, Schnitzer Steel (Tacoma), Pacific Iron & Metal, plus a few smaller operations. We have running relationships with most. Metal we pick up gets routed to whichever yard is paying best that week.
Should I Just Take It Myself?
If you have: – Less than a truckload – A vehicle that can transport it safely – Time to sort and weigh
…then yes, you can DIY. Scrap yards pay current rates (varies —-200/ton for ferrous; non-ferrous pays much higher). For most homeowners, the math says it’s worth doing yourself only if you have copper or other high-value non-ferrous.
For mixed scrap, appliance scrap, or just-want-it-gone scenarios, calling us is faster and easier.
When Hoss Makes Sense
- You have a mixed pile (metal + other junk)
- The metal is heavy/awkward (water heater, gym equipment, swing set)
- You don’t have a truck
- You don’t want to sort
- You want it gone today, not when you find time on a Saturday
We don’t pay you for the scrap; we charge our standard hauling rate. But for most folks the time savings come out ahead.
